The purpose of the Equipment Assistance Grant is to support the needs of eligible School Food Authorities (SFAs) in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) by enabling them to meet equipment needs. These funds will be awarded through a grant process to SFAs for the purchase of equipment with a value greater than $1,000 needed to serve healthier meals with emphasis on more fruits and vegetables, improve food safety, improve overall energy efficiency, expand participation and to help support the establishment, maintenance, or expansion of the School Breakfast Program. Equipment requests may include new equipment, renovation of equipment, replacement of equipment and installation costs. The Equipment Assistance Grant is not used to assist sponsors in creating a new kitchen and or cafeteria. Sponsors that submit an application with equipment request that appears to have the intent of building a new kitchen or cafeteria will be removed from the evaluation process and will not be awarded.
