Florida intends to establish a competitive grant program with the purpose of enhancing energy security, advancing energy initiatives, maximizing benefits of energy efficiency, reducing energy cost, stimulating the economy, and creating and retaining jobs. Time is of the essence; therefore, the Program gives preference to activities that can be
started and completed expeditiously (within 9 months).
The state’s proposed grant distribution strategy will utilize a competitive approach to distribute approximately $6 million in Federal SEP ($2 million) and SEP–ARRA ($4 million) funds. The grant funds will be made available on a competitive basis. Applications are restricted to designated fiscally constrained Florida counties as defined
by Chapter 218.67(1) the municipalities within those communities.
